about

Lorinda Rainn is the name of a character that I made up to represent Mother Nature and the season of Spring. This is probably the most artsy-fartsy song I’ve written up to this point, but I had fun departing from writing about myself. This was written and recorded in Spring 2015 in my dorm room, and I was inspired to use a multitracked Shirley Temple bottle to create a kind of organ sound during the bridge of this song. The tuning is a little wonky, but I think that adds to the character of it. This is the first song I ever recorded with my Zoom iQ5 microphone, and I’m happy with how it came out!

lyrics

[Verse 1]
Sunshine,
April rain
Spring has finally arrived
I’m starting to feel alive
Lorinda,
Lorinda Rainn,
You’re the raindrops on the grass
Now you’re here and winter’s passed

[Chorus 1]
I love the face of spring
I love the sun and the vibrant new life
Let’s watch the flowers rise
Out of the mud, into bloom

[Verse 2]
It looks like
It’s gonna rain
It’s cloudy, cool, and gray outside
With a breezy, stormy state of mind
Lorinda,
Lorinda Rainn,
You’re the name of spring weather
You are why it’s getting better

[Chorus 2]
I love the warmer air,
Calm and relaxing and friendly and slow
I love the rainy days
Allowing flowers to grow

[Bridge]
Ooooooo
Lorinda

[Chorus 3]
Oh, sweet Lorinda Rainn
I see you smiling down from the sky.
Now that the storm has passed,
I hear your cheerful laugh ring

[Verse 3]
Lorinda,
Lorinda Rainn,
You’re the puddles and the ripples
A friendly breeze with gentle tickles
Lorinda,
Lorinda Rainn,
You bring life to the living
You’ve relieved us all with spring
Lorinda
